Jimmie’s paintings and drawings reflect photographic realism. He has been drawing people since the seventh grade. His cousin, Johnny Jackson, trained him as an artist. Johnny had painted pictures of several famous politicians including Governor John Dalton and State Representative Thomas Eagleton. Jimmie and Billie Marler, his identical twin, are both artists. Jimmie has done several thousand drawings and paintings, and he has paintings in the Springfield Art Museum, at College of the Ozarks and Drury University. He has many paintings in local churches in Wright, Texas, and Dunklin County. He has won several awards in state, county and local competitions. Jimmie participated in the 1985-86 NASA Teacher in Space Program, and he was a finalist. He also won the Tandy Technology Scholars Outstanding Teacher for 1996-97.
In art shows at Ava, Mtn. Grove, and Hartville, he has won a over 300 places including the People’s Choice Award. His awards are in Photography, Pastels, Drawing and Painting. The art shows were from the fall of 2001 to the Fall of 2019. He has done 15 “one-man” art shows, two in Mtn. Grove and one at College of the Ozarks, four at Hartville, six at Kennett and two at the Harlin Museum in West Plains. Jimmie is a teacher, painter, litho printer, photographer, and pencil artist.
He has taught art, computers, and mathematics in colleges and high school for over 37 years. He has taught for Drury University for over 25 years, Southwest Baptist University for 30 years, and he was also the SBU director at Norwood for 6 years. He has taken over 800 weddings as a professional photographer. He has also designed a couple of album covers for musical groups (Coys & Jones Family Singers). He gets the greatest enjoyment out of art when he does a piece of art that makes someone else happy. Jimmie has donated many religious paintings to local churches. He especially likes to do religious drawings and paintings, because he feels he has received his multiple talents from God.
Jimmie lives in Hartville, Mo. He has a son, Steven Marler, who lives in Springfield, MO. Steven finished his Masters Degree at Drury University with a (MBA) Master’s in Business Administration in December of 2001. Steven is now running his own automobile dealership (Alliance Motors LLC in Springfield). He has 2 sons.
Jimmie received his Associate of Arts from Southwestern College in Oklahoma City; his Bachelors of Science from College of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, Mo; a Masters in Art from Drury University, Springfield, Mo; a Masters in Computers from Columbia University, New York, and a Phd in Computers from Columbia Pacific University Raphael, CA.
Jimmie Lee Marler knows how important scouts can be in a boy’s life, he was a scout leader for 4 years, and he has the rank of Eagle Scout with over 40 merit badges to his credit. His twin brother, Billie was also an Eagle Scout with over 40 merit badges. Jimmie received a great honor when he was inducted into the Dunklin Co. Library Hall of Fame on Oct. 21, 2007.
